Hurricane Irene Forces Phillies to Juggle the Schedule

On Thursday, the Phillies announced that Sunday’s Phillies – Marlins game would be moved to Saturday afternoon as part of a day/night doubleheader at 1:05pm.  With hurricane Irene on the move towards the east coast, the Phillies chose to be pro-active in their approach to the schedule.

However, as the weather forecast continues to worsen, the Phillies made yet another pre-emptive move.  The Saturday night, August 27th 7:05pm game has been re-scheduled to Thursday, September 15.  The time has not been decided yet,  but that officially removes the final off-day on the Phillies schedule before the end of the regular season.

Confused yet?  To recap, the Sunday, August 28 game will now be played on Saturday, August 27 at 1:05pm.  The Saturday night, August 27 game will be played on Thursday, September 15.

And all this is happening after an east coast earthquake on Tuesday, which is pretty much an unheard of event in this area.  Is the world coming to an end?  We sure hope not.  But the weather certainly is throwing a wrench into this baseball season.

I have a ticket for Sunday’s game, which means I am going tomorrow and crossing my fingers that the 1:05pm start time on Saturday will actually happen without another weather disaster.  If so, I will return with photos.

In the meantime, here is a video slideshow for you to enjoy and remember happier weather days.  These were taken in D.C. this past May at a Phillies – Nationals game.  It is J-Roll Smurf and his adventures at Nationals Park!

Go Phillies!

Earthquake or Cole Hamels Going to the DL?

Earthquake or Cole Hamels going to the DL?  Sadly, it was both.  But clearly, this is the universe’s response to the Hamels DL move.  The universe, and all Phillies fans, are NOT happy.

However, the Phillies are saying that Hamels will start on Monday.  But the move gave them a chance to add a player; utility man Pete Orr has been recalled from Triple-A.

As for the earthquake, it originated in Virginia and was around 5.9 on the Richter scale.  Reports have come from as far north as Massachusetts and  as far south as North Carolina.  I am in Dover, DE and the entire house shook for about 30 seconds.  I jumped up and moved away from anything that could fall on me, grabbed my son and went outside to see what happened.

Everyone in the neighborhood was doing the same thing; standing in their front yards, looking around, trying to figure out what happened.

And here is some reaction from Phillies, reporters & others:

Roy Halladay thumbed his nose at the earth and kept right on working out…classic.

Here is the line-up for tonight’s game:  Victorino CF, Polanco 3B, Utley 2B, Pence RF, Mayberry 1B, Francisco LF, Valdez SS, Schneider C, Worley P.
