Spring Training Photo Fun

Since the Phillies have the day off today, I thought I would share some more Spring Training photos with you.  These fall under the categories of weird stuff, accidents and a whole lotta Shane Victorino.

Let’s start with Shane!  1st photo: Note that his glove has a special engraving, “Kaipo” – in Hawaiian, this means “Sweatheart.”  How cute is that?  2nd photo: A Yankees fan taunts Shane after catching a home run ball:

Fans with possible brain damage – This first one is what happens when you have had one too many beers and a home run ball decides to visit:

And this one is not so funny; good news though, after getting beamed with a foul ball, this kid was ok!

YMCA Oddity:  Apparently, the ground crew at Yankees Spring Training are required to do the YMCA for the fans between innings.  The music started and here is what happened next:

And as soon as Victorino got on base after witnessing the YMCA insanity, here is what happened after that:

So how many of you are singing “YMCA” right now?  :O)

Another fun baseball event; the breaking of the bat.  Adam Dunn, Team USA, demonstrates.  Note the bat handle in the first shot:

I hope you enjoyed the photos!  The Phillies will be back on the diamond tomorrow at 1:05pm to face the Yankees.

The Yankees Grounds Crew is required to do the YMCA at Yankee Stadium as well. I guess it’s something to do with the Steinbrenner’s? Maybe they LOVE that song and dance routine so much that they embarrass the people that make the field look beautiful for the fans every day because doing grounds work on the field isn’t enough for what money they receive on their checks. Weak. Derek Jeter and David Wright? Eh. No rivalry there. Both of those men are respectable athletes and wouldn’t cause controversy. Did you happen to read what Jimmy Rollins said to David Wright on the flight from California to Florida? The last words that Rollins said to Wright was, “It’s on, again.” Let’s do this baby! See you this season…

Great shots, Jenn. You really know what you’re doing with the camera. The YMCA thing started a few years ago at Yankee Stadium in the 7th inning and continued in Tampa. I guess they’ll keep it going at the new Stadium, but I’m not sure. It was fun the first time I saw it, but I’d be up for a different routine. Should be interesting tomorrow when our guys face off.

    Jeff – bust a move :O)
Donnie – yeah, I heard that…J-Roll cracks me up! Actually, when they 1st met on the USA team, Rollins said the two of them agreed on a “truce” for the WBC; guess that’s over now!
Sue – yeah, it was fouled off…right back at the catcher! Fun!
Julia – no prob, you deserve it! We all work SO hard on these blogs, ya know?
Jane – Thanks! And I agree it may be time for a change – how about the Macarena? Ha, ha!!
Jen – Instructions: figure out the camera :O), but then just focus on where the action is likely to be and keep shooting! Anticipation is the key. Plus, more photos, better chance of catching something cool…then just delete the crappy ones – I LOVE digital!
Shelley – Try singing “Fish Heads” – that will crush the YMCA theme :O) Works for me everytime! ha, ha!
